Who else here likes Michael Gambon as Dumbledore? I do. Everytime I tell people that, they like rip my head off. I'm not taking a jab at Richard Harris. I think he's a great actor. (Saw Oliver Cromwell, which was pretty good) But, he just wasn't how I imagine Dumbledore to be.
Dumbledore is this old guy that's a bit eccentric because he's a freaking genius. He's youthful, strong, and a bit cheeky. And, Michael Gambon has that. He has this quirkiness that makes you believe Voldermort is afraid of him. I can't wait to see how they'll shoot the ministry scene in the fifth movie with Dumbledore vs. Voldermort. That's going to be an awesome scene. Now, can you imagine Richard harris doing that part? Of course not. His Dumbledore was too weakly.
Anyway, I'm just saying Michael Gambon is awesome! lol

I don't hate Michael Gambon's portrayal of Dumbledore, but I do think he was a bit aggressive for the most part in the fourth movie. He physically shook Harry and yelled, "DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE!!!" While Dumbledore's supposed to be calm and serene, he doesn't freak out like that. I thought that it was really out of character for him, but he was alright throughout the rest of the movie, I think he brings more energy to the part than Harris did. I liked Richard Harris's Dumbledore but like you said, I always thought he seemed to be a bit too frail for someone like Voldemort to be afraid of. My friends all think Ian McKellan should have been the new Dumbledore, but I think that's just typecasting...

He is ok. I mean yes, Harris needed to be a bit more energetic but I did like him better. I liked that he seemed more like wise and stuff... he was more like I would imagine Dumbledore... I mean yes, he is really good. I think Harris was better though, its just my opinion.

I would like to argue that the part where Harry was in the Trophy room and Dumbledore "charaged" him...People said Dumbledore pushed him or whatever. But, Harry actually just took a misstep backwards. And, he wasn't shaking him...I don't know. It was just me. I never thought Harry suffered physical abuse from Dumbledore

Richard Harris was definitely a bit too frail as Dumbledore, but I liked him nevertheless. But Michael Gambon is overall better. He seems like he'd be much more of a threat to Voldemort like he is in the books. Though I do agree that they made him a bit too aggressive in some scenes in the fourth movie. However it wasn't too bad.
I think a mix b/t Richard Harris and Michael Gambon would end up making the perfect Dumblydore come to think of it...

Richard Harris was good for the first two film because it still had this childlike story to it. It was a good choice for it. It wasn't until the third one did the movies kind of get darker and stuff. Still Michael Gambon is awesome!!! lol.
